Sena is from Osaka in Japan and trained at Soda Ballet School in Japan and the Dutch National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam. She joined Northern Ballet in 2020.

Where were you born and raised?

Osaka, Japan.

At what age did you start dancing?

When I was three years old.

Where did you train?

I started training at Soda Ballet School in Japan for 12 years and moved to Amsterdam to train at the Dutch National Ballet Academy. I graduated from the Dutch National Ballet Academy after I trained there for three years.

Awards/nominations/prizes

Top 12 in the Youth America Grand Prix in Japan in 2016.

Favourite Northern Ballet roles/which Northern Ballet role would you most like to dance?

I would love to perform in Peter Pan and Romeo & Juliet.

Career/training highlights

I danced Snowflakes in The Nutcracker and Boerenmeisjes and Wilis in Giselle with Dutch National Ballet as part of my internship during training at the Dutch National Ballet Academy.

What do you like most about being a dancer?

When I am dancing, I could forget about everything in a good way. So I think that is the most loving and interesting thing for me.

What is your favourite book?

I don’t read so much, I prefer watching films, news and documentaries.

What is your favourite post-show meal?

Any carbohydrate for energy.

How do you like to relax?

I like watching YouTube and Netflix while soaking in the bath.

If you weren’t a dancer what would you be? 

When I was little, I had a lot of dreams of being a cake baker or a school teacher, but now the answer would be something still related to ballet.
