It’s never too late to learn to dance! These classes are a great way to socialise, keep fit and improve posture and flexibility.
Whether you have danced all your life or simply want to try something new, our gentle ballet classes will keep you moving in a social and friendly class.
The Northern Ballet Learning team also offer classes and workshops for over 55s at some theatres on Northern Ballet's national tour.
All adult classes take place at our headquarters in Leeds LS2 7PA, unless otherwise specified.
Over 55s 1
A beginner level class for dancers with very little or no experience of beginner ballet vocabulary and steps. This weekly class will build on your understanding of the foundations of the ballet technique with beginner level exercises to start building your balance, strength, and coordination in a friendly environment.
Over 55s 2
For dancers with beginner experience in ballet who are looking for the next step to further their technique through a gentle progressive class. The weekly sessions will focus on your balance, strength and coordination improving your technique and understanding of the ballet principles.
Over 55s 2/3
For dancers with level 2 or 3 experience, this class combines improver level 2 technique whilst introducing more challenging exercises to help benefit dancers' overall skills and ballet principles. This class gives dancers the chance to work on their foundation technique whilst also pushing their confidence and broadening their understanding.
Over 55s 3
For improver level dancers with experience in ballet who are looking for a slightly more challenging class. Dancers will continue to work on the foundations of balance, strength and coordination, whilst working on more challenging and varied class exercises.
Yoga and Pilates
New for 2024/25 are our Pilates and Yoga enhancement classes. These classes will help you to build flexibility and strength, either alongside ballet or as standalone classes. Classes will be offered in 4-6 week long courses at different point in the academic year. Pilates classes will begin in September, whilst Yoga classes will begin in January 2025.

All courses will be held at our studios in Northern Ballet unless stated otherwise.
What to wear
Clothing should be loose and comfortable so that you can move easily. No denim please. Ballet shoes are required for all classes for admittance to class.

It’s never too late to learn to dance! Our classes for adults aged 18+ are accompanied by live music and are offered from beginner to intermediate level.

Taught with live music, these classes develop each dancer’s technical ability whilst enhancing their presentation skills and musicality. Suitable for dancers aged 8 to 16.
