Dancer
Charlotte was born in Vancouver and raised in Rossland, British Columbia, Canada. She trained at Canada’s National Ballet School for four years before graduating in 2019. Throughout her training she attended many different professional summer schools including Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Dutch National Ballet School and Prague Master Classes. Upon graduating from Canada’s National Ballet School she attended The Academy of Northern Ballet’s Professional Graduate Programme and toured with the Company in their production of Cinderella before joining the Company in 2020.

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Vancouver and raised in a small town called Rossland, BC Canada.
At what age did you start dancing?
I started dancing around the age of six.
Where did you train?
I trained at my local dance studio in Rossland for many years under a former dancer and teacher from Royal Winnipeg Ballet and then attended Canada’s National Ballet School from 2015-2019. Upon graduating from NBS I attended The Academy of Northern Ballet’s Professional Graduate Programme in 2019 before joining the Company.
Which Northern Ballet role would you most like to dance?
It has always been a dream of mine to dance the role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, but Northern Ballet has so many unique productions that I would absolutely love the chance to perform in, like The Little Mermaid and The Great Gatsby.
Career/training highlights
Having the opportunity to participate in Assemble International in 2017 was one of the biggest highlights of my training at NBS, as well as being a part of the Bournonville performances, Napoli and A Folk Tale coached by Henning Albrechtesen and Sorella Englund.
Also having the opportunity to tour with Northern Ballet’s Cinderella for six weeks in Autumn 2019 was truly an incredibly magical experience.
What do you like most about being a dancer?
There are so many things I love about being a dancer, like the hard work and constantly striving to be better, but most of all I love being on stage and losing yourself in the music and bringing a character to life. There is truly nothing else that compares.
If you could adapt one work into a ballet what would it be?
I think doing a ballet classic spin off would be really interesting, so I would adapt Maleficent into a ballet.
What is your favourite book?
I am not much of reader, but I was really captivated by The Da Vinci Code.
What is your favourite post-show meal?
A nice veggie pasta with creamy tomato sauce.
How do you like to relax?
I like to knit and bake in my free time, but when I have the chance I love being outside in nature more than anything.
If you weren’t a dancer what would you be?
I think if I wasn’t a dancer I would become some sort of Environmental Biologist and study different speciation, or something that allows me to travel. But I truly don’t think anything would make me as happy as being a dancer.
