In addition to elite training in classical ballet, the Centre for Advanced Training Programme features classes and learning opportunities to create a solid foundation on which students can pursue their dancing aspirations.
These include:
- Classes in contemporary dance, jazz, music and drama
- Intensive and holiday courses to build on confidence and technique and to widen knowledge of other areas of the arts
- Opportunities for some students to perform with Northern Ballet
- Free theatre trips
Year 1
Approximately 10 hours training a week focusing on:
- Usage and understanding of proper natural posture and body alignment
- Body conditioning to strengthen, and to re-balance any muscular imbalances
- Increasing vocabulary
- Presentation/joy of movement
- Creativity
- Introduction to pointe work
- Additional sessions could include jazz, music & drama, basic anatomy, nutrition and dance history
Year 2
Approximately 10 hours training a week focusing on:
- An increase in level of material
- Muscle memory and strength building
- Increasing vocabulary
- Pointe work
- Additional sessions could include introduction to contemporary dance, and continuation of studies in music & drama, anatomy, nutrition and dance history
Year 3
Between 10-14 hours training a week focusing on:
- Increasing the hours and intensity of classical training
- Building technical and physical strength and stamina
- Increasing vocabulary
- Additional sessions could include music & drama classes, weekly contemporary class, weekly Pilates reformer classes, and studies in choreography & dance companies
Year 4-5/6
Between 10-16 hours a week (depending on age, level and academic year) focusing on:
- An increase in level of material
- Increasing vocabulary
- Repertoire and supported adage classes
- Career advice and mental preparation and support for the career
- Additional sessions could include weekly contemporary class, weekly Pilates classes, and separate male and female classes
