Mackenzie left Northern Ballet in 2023.

I grew up in the the southwest of England and began my dance training aged 11 at TLW Dance. It was here I realised I wanted to pursue a career in ballet, I auditioned and successfully gained a place at Elmhurst Ballet school in Birmingham in 2017. I graduated from Elmhurst in 2022 before joining the company in August.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Essex and raised in Dorset.

At what age did you start dancing?

11 years old.

Where did you train?

Firstly at TLW Dance and then formally at Elmhurst Ballet School.

Favourite Northern Ballet roles/which Northern Ballet role would you most like to dance?

My favourite Northern ballet role is Jay in The Great Gatsby. I would love to dance this role as the whole ballet is so playful yet has so much storytelling and emotion behind it

Career/training highlights

Touring with Northern ballet as a student. Performing in the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games. Winning an award at the inaugurate Grad Pro competition and being coached by Principal Dancer Brandon Lawrence.

What do you like most about being a dancer?

My favourite thing about being a dancer is that I am able to have my hobby and passion as my career.

What is your favourite book?

My favourite book is The Five People You Meet in Heaven.

What is your favourite post-show meal?

Pizza

How do you like to relax?

I like to spend time with my friends and family

If you weren’t a dancer what would you be?

I think if I wasn’t a dancer I would be managing my own business.
